I am an EU national and I have lived in the UK for 10 years – do I need to do anything?

Do your own visa

Right at the moment you do not have to do anything – yet!

But should you? We think you probably should.

As we know, things are changing in the UK – it will no longer by part of the EU from March 2019.

After that date, all EU nationals and their family members will need to apply for ‘settled status’ in the UK. However, if you have already applied to confirm your permanent residency before then, you will only need to exchange one document for another and not go through the whole process again. There will be no charge for this.

If you have been here for more than 5 years already, you will be able to apply for British citizenship straight after you get your permanent residence card and then you won’t need to do anything further once Brexit actually happens!
